Embedding Locally Compact Semigroups into Groups
Let X, Y, Z be topological spaces. A function F :X × Y → Z is called jointly continuous if it is continuous from X × Y with the product topology to Z . It is said to be separately continuous if x 7→ F (x, y):X → Z is continuous for each y ∈ Y and y 7→ F (x, y):Y → Z is continuous for each x ∈ X . A semitopological semigroup is a semigroup S endowed with a topology such that the multiplication f...
متن کاملFinite semigroups as categories, ordered semigroups or compact semigroups
The results presented in this section are a good illustration of the following quotation of Marshall Stone [34]: ’A cardinal principle of modern mathematical research may be stated as a maxim: “One must always topologize” ’. Varieties of finite semigroups are a good example where Stone’s principle was applied successfully. Recall that a variety of semigroups is a class of semigroups closed unde...
متن کاملA Kind of Compact Quantum Semigroups
We show that the quantum family of all maps from a finite space to a finite dimensional compact quantum semigroup has a canonical quantum semigroup structure. Let X be a finite space and Y be a compact space. Then the space F (X,Y ) of all maps from X to Y , is a compact space with compact-open topology. The notion of quantum family of all maps, defined by Woronowicz [8] and Soltan [5], is a no...
متن کاملNumerical Semigroups Generated by Intervals
We study numerical semigroups generated by intervals and solve the following problems related to such semigroups: the membership problem, give an explicit formula for the Frobe-nius number, decide whether the semigroup is a complete intersection and/or symmetric, and computation of the cardi-nality of a (any) minimal presentation of this kind of numerical semigroups. A numerical semigroup is a ...
متن کاملQuantum dynamical semigroups generated by noncommutative unbounded elliptic operators
We study quantum dynamical semigroups generated by noncommutative unbounded elliptic operators which can be written as Lindblad type unbounded generators. Under appropriate conditions, we first construct the minimal quantum dynamical semigroups for the generators and then use Chebotarev and Fagnola’s sufficient conditions for conservativity to show that the semigroups are conservative.
